The Joy of a Balloon.

The Joy of a Balloon

Balloons of all colours dancing on air,
Tethered by strings held tight in the hand.
Offered by barkers at markets and fairs
As parents give in to their children’s demands.
The joy to be had from these floating shapes
Is simple and ageless passed down through the years.
Choose cartoon characters, funny faced apes;
Red green or blue, when one pops it brings tears.

For slow motion football it’s best to use round.
To form balloon animals use long and thin,
Race them by tagging and win farthest found
Or pass down the line using only your chin.
Have printed greetings hanging at parties
Promote, advertise, give away in the street
Give to a loved one to show where the heart is
How many would it take to lift me off my feet?
